|Word Equation||Iron + Iodine → Iron (II) iodide|
|Formula Equation||Fe (s) + I2 (g) → FeI2 (s)|
Several purple iodine crystals were placed into the bottom of a clean dry test tube and then clamped horizontally (slightly angled). A piece of iron wool was inserted half way and the test tube heated at this point with a bunsen burner. After a while the bunsen was moved down to the bottom of the test tube to pass iodine vapour over the hot metal. Purple iodine vapour passed through the hot wire wool and a slight reaction can be observed.
